Venus and Jupiter and with its Galilean satellites

by MikeInDevon

A clear evening here in Devon, Venus and Jupiter were jewels in the western sky. Using my manual K200mm f4 lens on the K1 this is about the best I got, a massive crop.

Both planets are over exposed, the phase of a very bright Venus can just about be seen, lower is the slightly flattened disc of Jupiter with its four Galileo satellites which are, from left to right Callisto, Ganymede, Europa, (Jupiter) and finally Io.

I'm impressed.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Well caught Mike.

Not bad for a 200mm lens with a relatively small objective lens.

Just checked online...Venus was approx 127 million miles away whist Jupiter was 536 million miles away...about 4.25x further than Venus.
A bit too far for a weekend away sightseeing at the moment...

Thanks guys, I was lucky to catch this as for a change we had a clear sky! And even happier with the results.

Cheers
Mike
