Sun Down on the Miners Memorial

by PeterMac

This is the recently erected memorial to the miners of the past who used to work the coal mines in Bo'ness on the River Forth around 20 miles west of Edinburgh.

Mining was a huge industry in the town and surrounding area up to the early 80s when it was phased out.

This wheel was used in one of the actual mine shaft lifts in the major colliery on the foreshore just to the west of the town centre and was refurbished prior to use for the memorial.

The powerstation across the water is Longannet and is europes 3rd largest coal powered power station.
