Sedco 711

by johnriley

We've been in the Kingdom of Fife for a week and looking out to sea, there were two of these rigs in the estuary, closer to the Lower largo side than the Edinburgh side. A bit of investigation on Google discovered they were Transco rigs, and the ID number shows up on the marine traffic location website. The marine traffic is really quite interesting, showing in real time the ID, position, speed and destination of all marine vessels. Anyway, to see the rig a little more clearly took the 150-450mm lens, the definition a bit curtailed because of atmospheric haze. And thus we spent some time on our holiday cottage's balcony, sipping wine and looking out over the water........

Sadly no, we had to return home at the end of last week, very reluctantly as The Kingdom of Fife held many treasures for us. Some of them are detailed in my EPZ blogs.
Best regards, John

Will do, and thanks for the blog comments.

We will be back in the area next year, there's more to see and we've not covered it before.
Best regards, John

You only realise just how big they are when you're close up to them although at 450mm I wouldn't imagine you were too close! Got a jump seat ride in a chopper back in the 70s from Aberdeen to Pacesetter 1, and return, something that wouldn't happen today! Just a dot in the North Sea, until you land on it!
