Set of four identical vacuum tubes (valves in British English) from Sylvania

Photo Information
Originally designed for use in televisions and radios, the 6CS7 tube type, generally speaking, sees little use in audio applications.

An exception to the rule are tube amplifiers from the Japanese brand Leben, whose owner and chief designer, Mr. Taku Hyodo, has a fondness 6CS7 for preamplification stage designs. Presumably because of its high degree of linearity, very robust design and prior high degree of availability.

The photo, taken with a Pentax K5 and a 77mm 1.8 lens, shows four Sylvania 6CS7 tubes from the 60s - a so-called matched quad - for use in my treasured Leben CS-600 amplifier.

The trouble is I can remember taking them out, swapping them around sometimes burning my fingers. Giving them a gentle tap whilst the set was on, just to see if a few more hours use could be got out of them. Happy days, I'm not sure how I survived childhood
