Its nice in the sun for a change

i turned off image stabilisation ( IBIS ) on the k70 and auto focus also . i wanted to see the difference if i had full manual control . i know its only a back garden blackbird and the background is to busy but i was surprised at the results.

Worked well but I can't see the point of turning off the shake reduction (other than proving it to yourself, as you rightly said).
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

I know David but it was just an experiment and my camera settings were that way from early morning tripod work iso 100 and all that

Thanks GIULIO57 and pauljay . i just prefer manual focus and i know i will miss some shots for that critical focus, but autofocus drives me berserk a lot of the time as my camera body moves it takes on a life of its own from close to infinity all in split second with SDM lenses . I'm aware of focus lock and other such functions, but at least I'm in the zone when manually focusing. Now IBIS on the other hand probably helps with slow shutter speed and who am i to disagree. I was not out to prove anything.
