I left this one though, in its natural state with literally no PP, only a lift of the shadows and a suppression of the highlights. No sharpening applied or contrast adjustments or any adjustments for that matter.
I enjoyed the freedom

I think it works because your eye is led all over the frame - and then that pole starts you off all over again and you think how it might be done differently - and then you go up one side, across the top and down the other. Very crisp B+W might work quite well, as mentioned above.
