Another one of a series I grabbed on the South bank while waiting to go into the London Aquarium. Pentax k5 with 35mm f2.4 and fill in flash.

Great shot, very sharp but some chromatic aberration especially around the legs. Maybe oversharpened in post processing?

Thanks for your comments everyone. Yes there are indeed some sharpening and jpeg artefacts present in the shadow from the fill flash. It was cropped quite liberally from the original image which was taken on a 35mm prime lens. Sharpening to this degree is always a compromise. Overall though I was pleased to get something useable out of a chance opportunity.

That's just great, fabulous focus on the head, BIF are certainly not the easiest!

Thanks Maria. The gulls were at close range, swooping to pick up scraps dropped by tourists.
I've found the best strategy for me is to shoot "freehand" from the hip. Not using the viewfinder or liveview and using a relatively short lens to allow some crop margin.
Focusing either by zone system or continuous AF if it can keep up. Depends a lot on luck but I often get something that would be nigh impossible with a longer lens.
