Yes it is using the on camera flash, most of my macro shots are with a flash. The flash exposure was reduced down by -1.

Hi Mac,

It's supposed to be used with a separate flashgun but mine doesn't fire properly at the moment and needs replacing. Any suggestions on a good option are welcome.

My first attempts were using a Vivitar zoom and a Raynox so everything was manual, I found the tips helped a lot.

With the DFA lens I use AV rather than manual, the attempts so far on fully manual haven't been as good. I then just adjust the ISO as low as I can to stay within the synch rate after I've set the aperture I want to use....not sure its quite the right approach but it seems to work ok.

I'm just limited to how close I get to the subject using the camera flash. I do sometimes get a shadow from the lens or hood if it's on. An external flash would probably be better.
