Street performers
by Noelcmn
A rather sad commentary on the high unemployment rate that exists in South Africa, is the high number of people trying just about anything to survive economically. One of the more popular ones is Street performers, found throughout the city, and usually at busy traffic intersections. The idea being the performers expect to be rewarded by motorists for the "entertainment", while they wait for traffic lights to change. So typically, these performances last a mere 30 seconds, but are high energy manoeuvers that may include dance, mime, a juggling act or as here, some silly actions, such as this one, doing monkey business. As can be seen, he has painted himself over with some white paint, and a monkey costume. A rather elaborate exercise that may or may not be rewarded. I captured him as he performed in front of a vehicle.
