"Galatea" at Kirkby Stephen

Photo Information
45699 "Galatea" storms through Kirkby Stephen with the Winter "Cumbrian Mountain Express". With a strong easterly wind blowing the section between here and Smardale seemed to be the best bet for the exhaust to clear the train and the assembled gallery were not disappointed. A 10 minute late arrival at Appleby was turned into a 2 minute early departure and, like last week, the driver was giving it the gun.

A red train. Red flag and red street-lamps. What a smart compo enriched by warm tones of late afternoon!

Thanks Giulio much appreciated, it being February I wasn't sure just where the sun would be but fortunately there was a gap in the shadows.

Well photographed, Galatea wasn't hanging around here as it charged up the incline. I'm only just out of the frame in your photo. My shot was taken from the platform bottom right in your picture but I have often used the footbridge at Kirkby Stephen for my view point.

Like David, you have caught her getting a gallop on and from a nice viewpoint to allow the afternoon sun to highlight the maroon liveries. A timeless shot with the old MR gas lamps.
