Green-metallic leaf-beetle feeding on buttercup pollen

by prsjnb

Not a mint leaf beetle, as I had first supposed, but Cryptocephalus aureolus, which has no common name. The distribution of this species in the UK is described as Nationally Notable B (widespread but scarce) on the UK Beetle Recording site (https://www.coleoptera.org.uk/spe.../cryptocephalus-aureolus), with the majority of sightings in central and southern England and Wales. When I viewed the image full-size it was apparent that at least two other species of insect were present on/in the one buttercup flower 😲.

The image also serves to illustrate the surprisingly good close-focus capabilities of the Tamron SP AF 70-200mm F2.8 Di LD (IF) Macro.

It is indeed a good image (from both lens and photographer). The old Pentax FA 80-320mm is similarly very good - and full frame.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

I own that Tamron lens and your image beautifully promotes its macro credentials. A memorable image. Bravo.
