That mysterious pink orb is the bright sun behind the cloud (photo taken facing South West just after 4pm), and what looks rather like a smear was a jet aeroplane trail!

I like this shot - I can't decide if cloning out the aircraft trail and pink orb/ lens flare would add to this or take away

I am glad you like it, Stuey. It was the dramatic "ring of light" illumination of that romantic spot that gave it the quality that appealed to me, so I was disinclined to clone out the sun. I did consider cloning away the jetstream, but decided not to, as it was an integral element in the overall scene at the time, and although I hope the photo may have some appeal for others, it is essentially a personal memento.
