Sooner or later, all steel will turn into the complex mixture of hydrated iron oxides that we call rust. Thermodynamics in a world dominated by corrosive oxygen and water makes it inevitable. All we can do is try to prevent it for long enough to get whatever use we want from the steel before the unavoidable happens.
