The Destruction of a Village

Photo Information
I shot this in the 1970s, using my first Pentax SLR. I was born and raised in a small Salford village called Irlams o' th' Height. The main road was lined with shops of every description, from manufacturers of furniture through shoe sellers, newsagents, baby shops, a garage, chemists, newsagents and so on. The village was destroyed by the building of the A6 bypass, which joined the end of the East Lancashire Road with Manchester City Centre. This image shows some of "The Height" remaining, and the City Garage can be seen in the distance. The new A6 is being built right through one side of the village, a place that would never be the same again.
