St. Michael's of the Sea
by Lubbyman
The Roman Catholic church of St. Michael (aka St. Michael's of the Sea), Isle of Eriskay, Outer Hebrides. And yes, the altar really is built on and around the bow of a boat. A boat's lamp is out of shot on a pillar. Eriskay is famous for being the place where the SS Politician ran aground in 1941 (wartime) while carrying thousands of cases of whiskey (duty NOT paid). Many islanders helped themselves to the cargo and were pursued and prosecuted by the revenue men. These events inspired the film 'Whiskey Galore'. Needless to say, the island's pub is called Am Politician.
