Waiting

Photo of the Week by Grodgeman

Taken on an estancia (ranch) in Patagonia. I did hesitate about this one, then saw that the category 'Pets/Captive animals' exists. This is it. The real thing.

Interesting processing of an unusual and interesting subject matter. I really like it, gets 10/10 from me.

Good God--what pelts are they? Say they aren't sheep pelts, please...

Brilliant... intriguing and disturbing in equal measure...

This doesn't pull any punches and its honesty of reporting is forgiveness for any hurt that goes with it.

Tell that to the sheep waiting under Damacles’ sword.

It makes a strong impression. It is a very sinister image because of the juxtaposition of the live sheep with the pelts. The colour, almost monotone, somehow adds to that foreboding. A powerful, strong picture demanding the viewer to question our treatment of animals. I know that in the U.K. animals waiting for slaughter, which I guess these sheep would be, are penned in more sterile surroundings but does that make it more acceptable? I am not a vegetarian and I enjoy roast lamb. Well done for stirring us all up!

I have absolutely no problem with the taking and posting of this image because it does indeed challenge the viewer to question our treatment of animals. While I am a vegetarian, I have zero interest in proselytizing those who choose to eat meat. But I must say I was shocked to see that some rancher saw fit to needlessly add to his sheep's suffering by hanging their comrades' pelts over their heads, like the sword of Damocles.

A seriously challenging image that demands attention as a quality photograph while at the same time makes a disturbing statement. over animal treatment. A good choice for POTW.

My sentiments also. Congratulations on a very strong POTW win.

It is also a commentary about attitudes. The rancher, reading this, might easily think we are nuts. A very well deserved POTW.
