The Abbey Ruins and a Bench
by davidstorm
Got up pretty early this morning to get some sunrise shots at one of my favourite photography locations - Roche Abbey, near Maltby in South Yorkshire. On this beautiful spot stand the ruins of a once proud Cistercian Monastery. The place was deserted at this time in the morning and had a real atmosphere.

Sorry about the bench Sally, I couldn't move it as the whole site is fenced off in Winter, so I decided to incorporate it in the shot.

This is lovely David, the pink tone in the sky as really added to the atmosphere, I like this very much the ruins are really sharp and clear. Best wishes Trixie

Until I read your comment, I was going to comment about the bench spoiling it - can't win 'em all! would be interesting to have seen the effect of you 10stop filter on the pink sky!
Otherwise - lovely shot!

With or without the bench, a great capture, has an eerie and atmospheric feel to it, the ruins really stand out against the colour of the sky. - mary.

Sorry David, it wasn't meant to be a criticism ! It was just funny to see the bench there with the long grass all around and the beautiful ruins in the background

Love that early morning colouring in the sky. I like the bench, myself. I think it gives a new observation on the old.

Thank you all for your comments. I think it's interesting that the position of the bench divides opinion so much! It shows that we all 'see' images differently and this is one of the many things that make photography and art fascinating.
