Messing About on (and in) the River*

by prsjnb

In this case the Cambridgeshire Cam.

I'm well outside of my usual comfort zone when photographing people, even close relatives. In this instance, however, I feel the image has captured the essence of the moment and the character of my youngest grandson.

*Those with memories that, like mine, stretch back to the 1960s may remember that the song 'Messing About on the River' often featured on BBC Radio's Junior Choice, a programme broadcast on Saturday mornings hosted first by Derek McCullough (aka Uncle Mac) and subsequently by Ed (Stewpot) Stewart. The song, memorably sung by the Scottish folk singer Josh MacRae, was written by Tony Hatch and released in 1961.

I remember it well, a gentle and evocative song with water effects and the sound of oars in rowlocks. And I had two years of freedom left

A great picture too.

We are not allowed to mention the name of Tony Hatch in our household since he wasn’t very complimentary to a family friend appearing on New Faces the talent show way back when

Photos nice though.

Can we ever forgive T--- H---- for composing the Crossroads theme?! Cute shot!
