Wilderness People

by davidtrout

In the wilds of Rannoch Moor, Scotland, during the recent heavy snow. At 58mm on a K10.
PS: Even during the worst weather in the UK there were some great sunny spells in Scotland with lovely blue skies. This was one of them.

Stunning image. The people in the foreground add so much perspective.

Wow! What a shot, David. To be there must have been something, but to have taken this picture...wonderful.

Andrew

A great reminder of how beautiful scotland is - when I first saw this I was thinking it was of far more exotic places! It looks like a straight shot (I guess you tweaked the levels) - I think sometimes as photographers we can be diverted by trying to create an initial impact. But this photo is long term - I wanted to look at it more and more.

I agree with Katie, the people in this picture make the photo and it just wouldnt be the same without them. I am certainly guilty of making sure landscape shots are free of people before I press the shutter. I suspect that if it had been my photo there would have been no-one in it, and a much weaker photo as a result!

Thanks for your comments.
Other than converting it from the RAW file into a JPEG and tweaking levels very slightly and cropping to tighten up the composition, I only did one thing in Photoshop. As you know snow generally ends up looking blue in colour photos, especially in the shadow areas so I reduced the saturation in selected areas.
Some pictures need figures in them to create scale. Others are better without. This was taken specially for the recent fortnightly competition on the theme of people so I left them in.
I've entered it in the Gallery so it will go into my portfolio.

Ditto to all of the above..its the people that add scale & perspective to this photo..& "make" the photo. Some truly beautiful photos on your photobucket site as well! Happy to be in in the Club - such great company!
