Vita Laeta

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to All Members in PUG.
I wrote something about this Church a few weeks ago as photo infos on my last upload "Belvedere". Till July 2017 no one inside my family could image how much this Church could be important for us. It lived inside estate of my grand grand pa. An earthquake in 1861 got a lot of troubles to an older Church living there....so a few years later Archibishop of Montalcino ordered to close that building beacuse it was no longer safe. In 1884 Archibishop asked for help to my ancestor...so ruines of old Church were destroyed an a new one Church was built: the one you watch at in this picture. Opening was a very important moment of life for that time and even a newspaper talked about this matter. In these papers I read about the Pope Leone XIII that gave a present to my grand grand pa (pls read photo infos of Belvedere picture). What happened later is still a secret (unknown)for us...but I know through documents in several Archives that my grand-grand pa was a collector of taxes. A few peoples in 1889-1890-1891 didn't pay for....and ancestor lost all his properties beacuse he had to refund that money....Not right but those were the days!!!...well the rules for government employes. My family knew and knows this final part only. After that, ancestor and his wife died very younger (44 yo). Perhaps grand grand pa got suicide but someone told about a murder!!! 9 children lost their parents and among these my grand pa. This one became an homeless and after a friar (we didn't know)...In 1913 my grand pa becomes a soldier for the rest of his life: 1915-1918 WW1(he is in the Stato Maggiore-Staff or High Command I do mean- and Caporetto battle)..then WW2. I knew him but he has never been glad to talk about his story and about the past of our family (his parents).....For all above we are blind about our past and I hope to know something more. This is not a Christams novel. This is true life and I'm sure that each one of us has a story to tell....So everyday it could be Christmas or it ought to be...

PS: Vita Laeta is latin language. It means "Happy Life". Nowaday in modern italian you shall write or read Vitaleta. On the internet you can look at lots of images about this Church. Simply search: Cappella di Vitaleta. This area and the whole Val d'Orcia are under UNESCO Heritage.
