Maasmechelen (B)

by pauljay

This region of the southern Netherlands, along with adjacent areas in Germany and Belgium, were riddled with coal mines at one time - the last mine in the Netherlands closed in 1976. Just across the border in Belgium are the remains of a mine whose towers remain largely intact. I had intended to photograph them for some time now so I took advantage of today's delightful weather and nipped across the border. Quite surprisingly there was no security or safety restrictions and thus I was free to wander around.
K-5/Tamron 28-300mm.

Unusual not to have security stopping you looking round! Nice bit of industrial archaeology!

First of all a nice piece of History. No security!...The same in Italy!
