Stratocumulus cumulogenitus
by morpheus71
A Stratocumulus cumulogenitus cloud sailing over Dartmoor, this formation was caused by convection ceasing late on a summer evening.
Here, previous Cumulus clouds have evolved and spread out at the top and also lost some height with the temperature being disrupted and the air starting to cool. This has lead to the previous domed cumulus summits flattening out.
It was a delight to see them accentuated by the afterglow light, from this barley field on the outskirts of Totnes
*Cumulogenitus refers to Cumulus being the 'mother-cloud'.

The muted light works well IMO, and you have used the field lines to great effect

A mine of information, as well as illustrating it so beautifully.

Thank you very much David Evolutions of clouds fascinate me in an artistic sense and as a physicist and mathematician I am intrigued by the science of their life cycles. Mindfulness, visceral gazings, wonder...

Thanks very much It is wonderful that this field, which is my favourite local 'sky space' is just minutes from my house. I have seen some breathtaking skies and beautiful light up there.
