Leopard earthballs

by davidwozhere

These puffball-like fungi puff their spores out of the opening on their crowns. The outer covering is like a leathery sack but their claim to attention is the amazing patterning on this sack. Look closely at it, particularly the one on the right.

Beautiful pattern and textures in that puffball. Thanks for sharing - haven't seen one of these puffballs for sometime now. This would warrant a macro to produce a sort of abstract pattern me thinks!

A great shot. Excellent lighting and detail.
Best wishes,

Thank you.
They are easily overlooked as they are low to the ground and look a dirty mud colour from a standing position. Not a good idea to prod them either !
