Wind hawk

by Jokke

This is one of my 'lucky shots' in Maspalomas, Gran Canaria in late February.
I don't know the English name of this Falco tinnunculus, but its Finnish name
is tuulihaukka which means wind hawk. That name describes its behaviour very well.

Lovely shot, I think this is a Kestrel.

Excellent shot lovely natural colours. I agree it looks very similar if not the same as our UK Kestrel. When watching for prey does it hover with its head virtually stationary.

I'd go for kestrel too! I've seen them hover for thirty seconds or more! Nice shot!
