I was dismissive of this scene I took this week.
The speeding sparrowhawk narrowly missed our Vizsla Zenon as i was focusing on him on a local wooded lane.
Friends though loved this imperfect image when I shared it on social media.
Goes to show that sharp perfection isn't everything to non photographerseh? Comment on this issue s welcome.

That's a fantastic shot Bill, the fact that the dog is in sharp focus is all that it needs, in fact I think it's better this way.

Works so well and the dog being in focus and not the bird isn't disappointing at all but i bet you would have rather it be the other way round.

Thank you. The lane was relatively dark, the shutter speed was right for the dog and along came the hawk which would have required higher shutter speed, smaller aperture and a less shallow hyperfocal range. The previous shot was taken just as the bird was some ten meters in front of the dog at head his head height, a complete blur with telephoto. When I've been on planned activities (whale and dolphin watching spring to mind) I take many photos to get what i want knowing how hard it all is to get right My next big project dog walking will be the mating kingfishers again.
