Canola enlightenment
by GIULIO57
A difficult moment of light in the late morning and a strange dull sky. In the far distance the sound of a few thunders. Canola in foreground gave a special mood to the compo. It seemed to work inside a light-box giving back a diffusion effect. A magical glamour embedded everything around. I found this slide chrome a few days ago so I wanted to give a chance to this work. Not sure about result because I still prefer the original slide-chrome projected on the old cloth-screen! Camera PENTAX LX on tripod and PENTAX Zoom Lens 40-80mm on 60mm. KODAK slide-chrome 100 EKTA SW(Saturated Warm). ISO 100; F 11 fixed; shutter speed 1/60s. Shutter release cable and mirror blocked up to avoid vibrations. This is the underexposed slide of -1/3. Manual exposure; manual focusing; hyperfocal. Date: May 1997!! Original slide scanned on EPSON Perfection 3200.
PS Val d’Orcia in the past years was more rich of many different colours, dyes and nuances. Nowaday it is no longer so!

I was used to write a few notes at those time when taking pictures. I still have inside slide-boxes. About this picture I read notes above only...but a few pictures before that one I read about polarizing. So I'm sure I forgot to write that word....but but I'm not sure. While scanning I used standard settings; during projection this "mood"is evident onto the cloth-screen......the "spread-glow" as well....As far I remember that moment was very strange
Solved the trouble: Slide chrome SW was a special warm tone type. I got a few slides for testing from Kodak many many ya.....I have found the old box with tecn. spec. : on the web I have found this site: http://www.photographyreview.com/product/film/slide-film/kodak/ektachrome-e100sw...

A lovely composition.
This is a special moment perfectly caught!
I can imagine others attempting to mimic this sort of end effect though their digital software but falling a little short of the real thing, an actual event.

I sat and looked at this for ages going over and over and every time my eyes would follow the footpath from the left and take me up to the villa and back down the path on the right and back along the 3 trees at the front and back up the left footpath again, up to the villa. Great colours, lighting and a superb composition. Liked.

Fantastic picture. It's also amazing how the stuff has "escaped" and now lines the edges of the distant fields where it has not been ploughed out.

A warm coloured slide film along with a polariser will produce amazing colours as you have here; I wasn't seeing it as a problem!

...No problem...don't worry...among properties of this slide there is a light sweet glamour effect. At first glance I was not glad of scanned result so you was right to observe those heavy tones. This is a good slide for proiecting but not for scanning, IMHO. I image what could happen printing original slide on the old cibachrome paper

Just seen this, Giulio - this is a magical piece of art.
I had to look carefully as it seems just like an oil painting and it would do justice in ANY art gallery.
Fantastic work, Giulio and thanks for sharing.
Best regards
Peter

One of my favourites of yours, it has such a magical quality to it and the composition is, as always spot on.
