Breaking The Sound Barrier

by davidstorm

This one's a bit complex. A straightforward image shot with the K-3 and DA*300. Processed in Photoshop CS3 by combining the original image with a white layer and selectively erasing areas in freehand. Next, black squiggles were also added in freehand, then the freehand areas were smudged. A further layer of the original image was added and a Gaussian Blur applied. Selective erasing was then done to leave the smudged / blurred area around the periphery and the original in the central area. The normal colour / levels adjustments were done to ensure the correct finish. I hope it has turned something competent but ordinary into something a little different.

All the hard pp work has certainly paid off with this one. A superb action shot.

I've been looking forward to seeing some images from the Tickhill cycle race. This is excellent, a well caught action shot. Your level of expertise in Photoshop leaves me gasping with admiration. My PS skills are at a rather more basic level.

Great final result. As you say, much work done here has achieved a background that doesn't compete with the main focal point.

Certainly worth all the effort! I like the way that the rider seems to be going in one direction and the bike in another!
