Dragons In The Sky

by 1stEverPentax

A pair of De Havilland DH.89A Dragon Rapides in formation recently at Old Warden.
The lead aircraft , G-AGJH, was built in 1941. It underwent a 27 year restoration and rebuild (!) before taking to the skies again in in June 2004.

The second aircraft , G-AGSH, was built in 1946 as a Dominie by Brush Coachworks Ltd of Loughborough before being 'civilianised' as a DH89A Dragon Rapide and delivered to Channel Island Airways Ltd of Jersey in July 1945. This aircraft has changed hands many times and flew with BEA on two separate occasions...first in Scotland on the Highlands and Islands route network and later on the Isles of Scilly route before being replaced by helicopters.

Nice action shot. Thanks for the history behind these often-overlooked De Havilland beauties.
