Superb photo, nice inclusion of the person to highlight scale and purpose

Nice feel to it, the focus where the leading lines brings one too.
The cloud on the left distracts IMHO
Minimalism if that fluffy edge was cloned out.

Yes, the fluffy edge needs to go but that black and white has IMPACT!
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Thank you for the feedback, it's appreciated

Here's the original uncropped version.

I see the logic behind cropping tighter and/or editing out the cloud to the right.

On the other hand, I like the sense of non perfection it adds to the photo.

There are some photos that we aim for "perfection" in, generally we don't quite achieve it but they help build our experience and improve our technique.

The non perfection that you have mentioned in this image really makes for a superb photograph - it doesn't conform to many traditional rules, but has good impact and a great look

I smegging love this....

They way you spotted and captured the highlights is nothing short of brilliant. Then throw in all the contrasts, make this photo just epic.

For me this a POTW contender!!

Well put

It struck me that there might also be something at play in terms of the number of elements / sections being either odd or even numbered.

I count 6 without the cloudy area and 7 with it, highly subjective.

Thank you

I went to the same place yesterday - with a 35mm macro limited this time. Haven't had a look at the results yet, but it'd be an interesting project shooting a couple of times, perhaps with different lenses.

It's a super shot! Without the cumulus it becomes super super!
