Blackbird Demise
Taken earlier this evening in our back garden. As a consequence there are three or four very young Blackbirds (look only a few days old) in a nest about 4' above ground in a Cypress type hedge which probably won't survive this night. Nature can be cruel.

and some peanuts quartered.
Went to check on them again a couple of hours ago when we heard them cheeping again...only two still in the nest. No sight nor sound of the third one.
Whilst digging nearby for some more worms my son rushed at the Sparrowhawk which was gliding down swiftly towards the nest...presumably to take another meal.
Currently running shifts now guarding the nest whilst someone else is out buying mealworms. Will have to move the nest later into the garage as otherwise the other two will be taken.
It's like having our own BBC Naturewatch in our back garden.
