Winter of life.

by GIULIO57

This is one of my latest traditional darkroom monochrome. Taken in winter 2016 (early morning February 12th) using a PENTAX MX and PENTAX Zoom 40/80 mm lens. Camera on tripod. I was taking pictures of seaside, bench and tree while the man and his dog came inside compo. I waited for a while just to match curved-without leaves tree to the old curved man walking his dog. Winter for both I thought, me too!
Kodak Tmax 400 film (I used its own developer). Exposure: f 8 ; 1/250s. Yellow filter. Then printed on ILFORD RC Multigrade IV paper. This file, showed here, has been obtained scanning original film using an Epson Perfection 3200 scanner. Honestly I prefer digital version. Traditional print is just a little bit flat. I edited file in Silver Efex 2 (free from Google collection).
I am not sure that bench adds something to the compo. Its position stops eyes while looking at tree and running to the man. About the border: perhaps nasty but I find it useful (to what ? Don't ask...I don't know....I'm old). Place: Italy, Lake Trasimeno.
PS I see EXIF data...taken 23-3-2017. It Is date I took digital file using Epson perfection scanner.

Grainy but a balanced composition and most importantly,
story telling is to the fore.
The bench does not distract to my eyes in the slightest.
The triangular form is complete.
Nice subtle work Giulio

Thank Flan. First of all thank for your info about free AutoPano giga. I downloaded It f.o.c👍. About Pic. Grainy right. It was a mistake to Scan film. It could be a better choice to scan final print, IMHO. Glad that bench doesn't distract you. Thank for your comment.

I find it a bit grainy but, for me, composition comes first and you have nailed it.

Funnily enough I don't mind the grain.

Thank for your opinion. Grainy Is a trouble for digital world. I find It interesting coming from last century traditional photography. Sometimes I was used to pull ISO up to 800 or 1600 Just to increase grains. Nowaday I don't know if grainy Is a pleasant plus or not. Anyway It Is very useful to me to know opinions of other peoples. About this picture: too grainy. Right. I think the same. It was better to scan final print and not the film.

It would be interesting to see both versions (copies) of the image i.e. the scan of the negative and an image of the traditionally printed result.

No problem. Please Just wait for a few days. I printed It using sepia chemicals and I have to scan It, yet.
