Caterpillar Old World Swallowtail

Photo Information
The caterpillar of the Old World Swallowtail spends the first part of its life with the appearance of a bird dropping, an effective defense against predators.
As the caterpillar grows larger it becomes green with black and orange markings. The caterpillar still has a defense against predators in the form of an organ called an osmeterium which consists of retractable, fleshy projections behind its head that can release a foul smell if disturbed.

This is exquisite Peter, beautiful colours and the DOF is spot on.

It is a gorgeous shot. It has nice colours, sharpness and well-controlled DOF. I really like it.

I think that's the first caterpillar I've seen here, certainly the first that once looked like a bird dropping!
Delightful shot.
