A 'Western' in the North East

by davidtrout

Far from its home territory a former Great Western Railway freight loco is hard at work on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway near Whitby.
The 28XX Class engine is hammering up the incline out of Grosmont with a tourist passenger train late on a November afternoon in 2014.
K3+DA*200mm lens. ISO 2000 as the light was beginning fail.

I love these Great Western 2-8-0s, David. This is a fine study which shows its power. Pity we can't here that two cylinder exhaust note.
Best wishes,

Andrew

I could hear it well Andrew, loud, sharp and clear, typical of Great Western perfect valve design.

Lovely capture of the whole "steam" thing, especially the GW "bark", "bark" as opposed to "chuff", "chuff".
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

What a magnificent shot! Difficult to detect just how close to the track you were!

Paul, because I was using the 200mm lens I was further back than it appears. Also it looks as if I was standing near the middle of the tracks , in fact I was well to the right of the picture on the outside of the curve.

X2, also, the lens and POV makes the resultant engine image appear to just break out from the tunnel. T
