Great shot Chris, BTW it looks like a species of Wasp to me, not a Hoverfly? I've seen some like this in my garden and they are nesting in hole in the ground, between two large stones.

There are hundreds of Wasp species living in the UK, so please don't ask me to namethis one!

These are nesting in a hole so you are right, David. We've had this before with my poor insect recognition skills

Nor me - this was a bit of a fluke compared with my other efforts!

Well done Chris, great shot. You must have got to close for comfort.

Impossible shot for me as i run a mile at the sight or sound of a wasp.
