Carrie B

Photo Information
I wonder what happened to Carrie A?

The sun goes down while the Newhaven Lighthouse guards over a few small boats in Newhaven Harbour, Edinburgh.

The harbour was founded by King James IV in 1500 as a royal dockyard to permit the building of much larger ships than was possible at Leith.

The most famous ship built at Newhaven was the Great Michael, the biggest of its time, which was launched in 1511 following six years of work. It was 73m in length, 11m in width and had a hull of oak some 3m thick. With a crew of 420, the ship was also capable of carrying 1000 troops. It is said its construction laid waste to all the woods in Fife.

Nice shot, a wonderful blend of colours.

Not sure but I think I would prefer if it was cropped more tightly particularly on the left to lose the small boats and at the top to lose some of the blue.

stevejcoe, i think you could be right. i've made amends and have a new pic that i'll upload tomorrow as it seems we're restricted to one a day.
