Tunneling!

by pauljay

One of the biggest construction projects going on in the Netherlands at the moment is taking the A2 highway underground to ease its passage around the city of Maastricht, something that should have been done when the A2 was laid many years ago! The construction is unique in that the entire project will consist of four tunnels; the top two being allocated to local traffic entering and leaving the city and, beneath them two more tunnels for A2 through traffic, southbound to Liège and northbound to Eindhoven. All parties involved have done their utmost to keep future users up to date with construction progress which included guided tours of areas of the tunnels. I joined one of the tours at the end of April and as there were only ten people in the group it allowed easy communication with the guide, except for an Englishman whose Dutch is still poor after all these years! The tunnels open towards the end of 2016.

A very effective shot Paul, I love the bright reflections on the back of the jackets set against the overall darkness of the rest of the image.

I'd be a little tempted to crop some off the bottom and make it letterbox format?

I agree with David. The join in the concrete is a bit intrusive. It's an excellent idea to show people how their money is being spent in such a close-up and personal way

Super shot, Paul. Great contrast.

I stayed in an international hotel recently where it was clear that everybody, regardless of nationality, spoke English to each other as the common language. (Except the Russians, of course, who didn't speak to anyone, if they could help it, but got by with a range of grimaces and angry stares.)
Best wishes,

Andrew

Many thanks for the feedback gentlemen. I resisted a crop as it's not the clearest of shots!
