I stayed in an international hotel recently where it was clear that everybody, regardless of nationality, spoke English to each other as the common language. (Except the Russians, of course, who didn't speak to anyone, if they could help it, but got by with a range of grimaces and angry stares.)

I agree with David. The join in the concrete is a bit intrusive. It's an excellent idea to show people how their money is being spent in such a close-up and personal way
