Micro Insect

by davidstorm

This fly is only about 2-3mm long. I've been testing my home-made macro setup in the garden today (thanks darkskies, CharlotteF, Dr O). This comprises of:

Pentax FA 28-80 with all glass removed

Reversed Pentax-A 50mm F1.7

Neewer TT560 Speedlight flash

Home-made double-headed flash diffuser made from Pringles Tubes, this fixes onto the flash head and fires light from both left and right of the subject, the idea being an even light with no shadows that can occur with a single light source

Duck Tape to hold the reversed lens onto the butchered zoom

Shot taken with the zoom at F32 and 80mm, reversed lens at F1.7

Can't wait for my Nikkor enlarging lens to arrive!

The image is wonderfully produced but as technically challenged as I am I will only be able to view not create my versions of bugs and insects. I'm happy you do so, and if reincarnation is real,I might be a bug waving at you. Fine resulting image, thanks, tg

'Way to go' to get these results. Hats off. We just enjoy the results, so thankyou.

Thanks all, I'm on a mission to improve these shots and there is a long way to go yet! This is one of hardest areas of photography to master, it get harder as the bugs get smaller!

Your encouragement keeps me going and challenges me to make better shots.
