Early Morning Near Gibralter

Photo Information
Just got back from a two week cruise around the Med and needless to say took quite a few photos!

I hope you will all excuse me uploading a few. This is the first one, shot in the early morning from the deck of our cruise ship, just after passing Gibralter. The coastline in the distance is Southern Spain.

Wonderful soft tones; interesting almost 3D effect.
Best Regards, Larry.

All the gear & no idea.

Thanks Larry - it's the 55-300 that gives it this effect - the telephoto foreshortens the shot and makes it look a bit 'layered', like the so called '3D' on a Nintendo 3DS.

I like to use the 55-300 on some landscapes for this reason as it usually produces shots that look a bit different from the norm.

Cheers

I really like this photo, the simplicity, the colour and the overall feel. I only tend to comment on photos I really like and catch my eye, so in that context I do wonder whether removal of the reflections from the sea would somehow improve the overall simplicity of the photo which is its strong point?

Thank you Stu, it is nice to receive a comment from someone who rarely does so and also it's good to get a view about an aspect of the image that might be improved. From an artistic standpoint I think you are right about the reflections in the sea and the image would probably be more effective with them removed, however I have produced this image more as a reminder of our holiday than as a piece of art and from that perspective I prefer to leave them in as the photo is more representative of the scene my eyes were seeing when it was shot.
