Thanks David and Stan for your thoughts as ever... Yes, I agree... Funnily enough I wasn't quite sure about this one either (one of the reasons for posting it actually)... Think on reflection this one might be a bit too "Tricksy", with not enough meat in the sandwich, if you see what I mean...

No......disagree. Love it. It's all about the feeling we get just simply looking at a piece of work. We are individuals and so is a photograph. Do we disrespect Japanese Art for it's simplicity of lines and inclusions. No we don't. Photography is not a simple pointing and recording. It's about hitting the guts. I've been to many Art Centre exhibitions and this could easily be a part of one of the exhibitions I've seen in the galleries. Hooray for experimentation and we should all just embrace the freedom of capturing hidden treasures.

Thank you Gray for your kind words, and such a thoughtful response... Interesting this... I've been experimenting with this for the last 6 months or so... And in the process have taken many many shots... On reflection, the ones that tend to work best for me are the ones, exactly as you say, that elicit a strong emotional reaction (as you say,"hitting the guts"), or reveal a hidden something, over and above making things simply a bit blurry...

What interested me particularly about this one (as with some others that I'll post later) was the transformation of it... the tree in the picture is a favourite of mine, and one which I find beautiful... but in many ways is quite unremarkable, in a quite standard suburban park, and I took the picture in fairly flat unremarkable light (I might treat it to some more golden light next time)... But it was a conscious attempt to put the spotlight on it, make the ordinary "extraordinary", if you see what I mean...

To some extent I think I've probably succeeded in terms of pure transformation... What I was less sure about with this particular shot (and to an extent still am) is what ELSE I might have captured here (if anything) in terms of beauty/emotion/essence over and above the transformational part, hence the posting, and my interest in reactions to it...

Thanks again for your thoughts... Very helpful... Will keep experimenting, and posting...
