This is England!

by davidstorm

I usually take my camera everywhere I go just in case I spot something worth shooting. This is a field near where I live that has been freshly prepared a week or so ago and the soil has dried out a little. The shades and textures really caught my eye so I had to take a picture of it! When I got home and processed it, I thought to myself it was so typical of an English countryside scene. This one needs the 'Large' view.

PS Note to Giulio - this one is not HDR

Best large. Reading your photo info I thought that I'm used to think in the same way....but I wonder: as green, sky, clouds and so on are all the same in the world...where are REAL differences? Is Green in England more Green than in USA or Italy? I don't know....well I(we) know. My green is really green. I'm sure not to offend you or other peoples. I'm sure that this psycho approach to this problem....helps to solve the problem

Hi Giulio, I was thinking more about the scene than the colours when I mention England. This is a typical English agricultural landscape; I think it looks similar in other countries but is subtly different everywhere in the world. I hope you like the photograph anyway!

Nice shot, David - interesting colours and textures.
What is interesting is that the vast open area devoid of hedgerows are now what we consider typical. Hedges have been ripped up to make life easier for farmers. It is a typical landscape of the area just to the south of us here !

Yes, I forgot to comment photo. I like it and I like tones. In March April close to Siena there are places like the one you uploaded here. Open spaces, the perfume of the wet ground after tractors prepared it, strong clouds...a beautiful green for growing wheat...Your landcsape is similar to those close to Buonconvento,Montalcino, Montepulciano, Val d'Orcia. I like your scape because it reminds my areas.

Hi David,
I agree with Giulio, .., I don't see what in this marvellous pic is exclusively characteristic of England. I don't know England, but I know rather well Scotland. If you didn't mention in the title I'd think about some part of north eastern France (particularly Champagne) with iron saturated rusted soil and frequently clouded sky, .. also Hainaut province of southern Belgium, where I live; .. and I can mention others from a couple of different countries. I think, though it's (as I said) marvellous looking, it's a common landscape view you can find in several part of the Continent. Nonetheless, .. two things fascinate me in this pic : the contrast between rusty red colour of the soil and green grasses just behind, and cloud shades on the soil. You are right to bring your camera everywhere you go. So I do too.

best wishes

Hi Nuri, this is a very deceptive photo as the shades on the soil are actually not caused by the clouds. They are purely due to some areas drying out more than others and also due to the different soil types. Where the lighter areas are there is more clay mixed in with the soil.
