Spider with captured bee

by swarf

Unidentified spider with captured honey bee. I'd guess it's one of the orb weavers given the size of the web (c. 10-12 inches across). Any identification welcome.

Think it's a Garden Spider, swarf, with that cross on its back.......?

Red in tooth & claw, eh?

Roger - That's what I thought, but the colours don't match most of the photos, and the abdomen look less "rounded". However, since I posted, I found another website that said that the colour can vary widely. There was also a male nearby which was keeping its distance - wisely I'd guess!
