Smoke Screen

by pgweber

Some days, just one element is missing or wrong in a picture.

Location, light, exposure, lens all optimised but the wind went and spoiled everything! It blew the steam across the view obscuring the back of the train.

Ex LMS 4-6-2 No 46233 'Duchess of Sutherland' was making her 'annual' trip to Scarborough when I snapped her near Ilkeston this morning.

As there was no nice rake of maroon coaches to be seen behind, I have cropped closer round the locomotive to show here.

And it worked a treat.

Not what you expected.

Maybe better.

Thanks to Mac & John for their encouraging words.

I shot this with my FA 50/1.4

This afternoon I worked through my lenses, calibrating them by shooting a white ruler on the desk with camera on tripod at 45 degrees. My FA50 was the only lens requiring no adjustment; no surprise as I have always thought it looked the sharpest of my kit. My 16-45 required +3, DA35 +10 (more if I could and ex Amazon).
