Industrial Landscape

Photo Information
On Saturday, myself, my wife Nicky, Drew (AndrewA) and George (Carmagw) and our dog Daisy, went for a walk through Sheffield's Industrial landscape. The 'Five Weirs Walk' follows the River Don from close to Sheffield Canal Basin (near the centre of town), out towards Rotherham and Meadowhall. This route goes straight through Sheffield's industrial heartland, where once the air was thick with fumes from the Steelworks that lined the river. You can still see and smell the industry, but the river is recovering from the battering it took from pollution and is now teeming with fish. If you live in or around Sheffield, this is a fascinating walk, mixing nature and urban / industrial landscape. It's also fairly flat and not too strenuous. In this image, George and Drew are on the right, getting a different angle on this scene.

This is one that benefits from the large view.

Would love to go and have a wander around this area. As a child lived in Sheffield and in ~1961 my dad took me on a trip around the steel works when still in full sway. Some of the mental images of molten steel, heat, dirt and noise are still with me - a great trip!

Brought back memories of my then frequent visits to Sheffield to Johnson Matthey refinery in my former career. ( had to retire, got in the way of my imagery production) But, enough about me, your image is fine and tells a interesting story with rare spontaneity …… thanks for sharing. I'm ordering a Sigma 17-70 ASAP.

Like the derelict look of this, the weeds growing on the bridge shows the neglect, the river looks reasonably clean though
