Duchess at York

Still hard at work the veteran express steam loco Duchess of Sutherland rolled into York on Saturday with the Yorkshire Coronation train which it hauled from Derby to Scarborough. Here its getting under way from the York stop and heads for Scarborough.

My favourite express passenger engine, very well captured but I prefer it in red really.

A proper locomotive on Yorkshire rails with a nice deep exhaust note and no wheel spin I bet

We haven't seen any steam over here for a while due to ongoing electrification work so I`m having withdrawal symptoms .

I agree with Andrew, these engines looked better in red. And yes Cliff, you were right, no hint of wheel spin as it started off

Love the result. Don't understand this technical stuff about trains. But you have to admire the beauty in their make up.

I missed this earlier. I like the low viewpoint which effectively conveys the power of this fine engine.
