Farnborough Landing

by GlynM

This was my entry for the recent weekly competition "Passing of Time" and I am putting it up here to get it into my portfolio.

A composite of four images of a small business jet landing at Farnborough.

12 seconds top to bottom .

Shot from the car park of the Swan pub using a Pentax K20D and the DA55-300 @ 300mm

Montage created in PSE10.

You can see an animated gif of the original image sequence, all shot hand held, here.

Hi Glyn, you will have seen my competition comments on your image which came very close to coming in the top three. I also commented that this would look great in B&W - a strong conversion with good contrasts would look lovely (not that there's anything wrong with this as it is).

Great shot.

Thanks David. Your comments here and in the competition are very much appreciated.

Just for you I have had a quick go at producing a B&W version which you can see here .

I am not very good at B&W and suspect I may have overdone the contrast a little but I was a bit woried that it looked a bit washed-out .

I prefer the mono version, the green & red distract my eye slightly, but either verison is fabulous shot.

Not a bad landing either, almost exactly 'on the numbers'.

I'm impressed! Showing the green of the threshold lights and the red of the two visible PAPIs makes the shot(s) very natural and all part of the scene.
