Wow that is a good capture. looks like you got it without having to pan? Can you remember what focus mode you were in? I can't get action shots. Mine are always hopelessly blurred.

I all my action captures I use Contiunuos Focusing (AF-C mode)pressing rear button of my K20D...so I press shutter button to take piccies only!...for this reason I don't need(most of times)panning my subject.However I'm always obliged to "follow"the subject so to keep it in the middle of the compo....and this causes a little bit of "panning",IMHO. I hope my reply is complete...if you need more infos....ask for!No problem for me...even if I'm a teacher
