Totally new to photography and bought a pentax kx after looking at all the other entry level dslr's, any advice on how to take better photos without spending massive amounts of money would be appreciated, this shot was taken with the dal 50 - 200 kit lens at 3200 iso aperture f4 and a shutter speed of 1/250s

Welcome to the world of Pentax Steve. A browse through the photos in this gallery should give you a good idea of how to do, and not do, it!
My camera has never seen iso 3200 set, but then, I'm a coward!
I get the impression that you're already doing some of the right things. Keep it up.
Paul.
