Windthorn

Photo Information
Early morning transient light catching the hills alongside the ancient Windthorn Lane - to the Long Barrow Windmill, between Compton and Marldon - in the South Hams of Devon.

So many times that I have stood here waiting, hoping for light and shadows to work together in an appealing way with the landforms... worth it on this occasion, I thought.

A nice 'bowl'. Do ever get a bit of mist settling in there? That could look good as well!

Really a good compo. I do like "dialogue"between windmill on left and house on lower right. Great light and tones

Many thanks for your kind comments Andy I shall keep that area on my list for places to try on misty mornings. There is a brook that runs through that bowl which should provide enough moisture to create mists on cool mornings

Many thanks indeed for your kind and considered comments Giulio The dialogue between the farmhouse and the windmill struck me as an interesting opportunity. I really like the flow of the hedges echoing the undulations of the hills and bowls there.

Many thanks indeed Bjorn the South Hams area of Devon has a wealth of gently crumpled hills and hollows in which to compose photos in interesting light.

Beautiful Phil, you have a real talent for making the 'ordinary' look 'extraordinary'.

Thank you very much for your kind words David I think often my photos are reactions to things I am intrigued by on my walks. Though sometimes I enjoy trying to visualise how things 'may' be in different weathers, lighting and seasons. This photo is one thought about making for a few months, thinking that a winter morning and an active weather system would offer the best chances for the vision in my minds eye... it was a delight when it all came together in this
