Rack and Ruin

by pgweber

Engine No. 6 'Padarn' makes steady progress up the Snowdon Mountain Railway, past a ruined agricultural building on the lower slopes.

The rack in the title refers to the toothed rail in the centre of the tracks, which engages with a geared axle on the engine allowing it to climb gradients where normal wheel/rail adhesion does not provide enough grip.

Taken on 14th June 2009 using K10D/Samsung 50-200, shot as a jpg.

That's a nice sight to see; looking forward to experiencing it live later in the year.

Good use of a long telephoto and nicely timed, too.
