Black Down Common
Photo Information
Hazy sunset light above the autumnal hues of the rugged heathland of Black Down Common. The heath lies upon a long ridge at 260m a.s.l.
Heathland, carr woodland and marshy grassland habitats have developed on the acidic soils overlying the Greensand and Keuper Marls of the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The upper slopes support Oak, Rowan and Holly, and a ground flora dominated by Bilberry and Bell Heather.
It is an enchanting open space with an ancient atmosphere about it, an unspoilt bucolic idyll. To watch the light of the sun sinking through the growing mists and low cloud, in such a space, was a moment to relish.
This 3 - frame panoramic photograph was made whilst literally standing on the Devon/ Somerset border.

Whilst the photo is intriguing, your description reads like a book...it left me wanting more to read of this novel.

Many thanks Donna 😊 Nearly finished writing a book about mindfulness and metaphysics as an approach to landscape photography. It's called 'Into the Landscape' and will be a self published hardback square coffee table style book. Photography and philosophy is the essence of it.

Many thanks for your encouraging words 😊 The main text is written and it's just being fine tuned following feedback from some people who have read the draft. A few layout changes to do and a few short additions, but I can visualize the finished book now 😊

As much as I admire your efforts Phil my own form of analysis goes no deeper than the first layer - I like it, I don't like it! I would assume that goes for the majority of people although, as very few people on this forum ever hit the "Like" button, perhaps it doesn't even go that deep! My simple philosophy in respect of photography has also been applied, quite successfully I would say, to wine, music and a number of other aspects of daily life - a good wine is one that I like, etc! Thus, as your forthcoming tome will probably never grace my coffee table I do wish you luck with the project. However, please guarantee that your wonderful photos will still be rollin' in!
